What are the Henry van de Velde Awards?

The Henry van de Velde Awards showcase and applaud Flemish designers, enterprises, products, projects and services which, through design, offer solutions that have a positive impact on society and the economy.

The Henry van de Velde Awards are widely supported thanks to the shared vision of a professional and international jury with considerable expertise in the sector. The official award ceremony at Bozar, the exhibition and the book make the Henry van de Velde Awards a real platform for Flemish design

There are no fewer than 12 Gold Awards to be won:

The Lifetime Achievement, Company, Young Talent and Public Awards as well as the eight categories of Business, Consumer, Community, Ecodesign by OVAM, Graphic & Packaging, Habitat, Health & Wellbeing and Mobility.

Who's on the jury?

Design is a very broad field, and this is reflected in the composition of the jury. On the first jury day, a national jury of design experts gathered. It was extended on the second jury day to include a number of jury members from abroad, which gave rise to a particularly interesting debate.

The national jury: Ronald Bastiaens, An Bogaerts, Evelien Bracke, Tom Delaey, Frederik De Smedt, Katrien Laporte, Giovanna Massoni, Chris Meplon, Hilde Peleman, Hugo Puttaert, Liv Vaisberg, Heleen Van Loon, Lise Van Tendeloo and Saskia Westerduin.

Complemented by these international jury members: Peter Ghyczy (designer), Kriistina Lassus (designer) en Anne van der Zwaag (director Objekt Rotterdam).

The extended jury also selected the winners within the Lifetime Achievement, Young Talent and Company categories.

Will there be any other surprises on 29 January 2019?

Absolutely. The Henry van de Velde Gold Winner Awards will be announced in the Henry Le Boeuf hall at BOZAR on 29 January 2019. These are the Lifetime Achievement, Young Talent, Company and Public Awards, along with the winners from the eight categories listed above. Only then will you find out who the recipients are!

Why are we already announcing the Henry van de Velde Award Winners on 15 November?

Not everything is decided by the jury. Right from the start in 1994, the voice of the public has been of particular interest to us. From 15 November on, the public will have the opportunity to let us know which project, product or service they want to be the ultimate winner. This year too, the public can vote online for their favourite, from 15 November through 21 December 2018 at www.henryvandevelde.be/en.
